Family Tested Frugal Recipes...
Family Approved!

One of my favorite things is family frugal recipes.

Collecting them, organizing them, testing them.

There have been plenty of family recipes I have chucked. My MIL’s recipe for Monkey Bread for instance…gonzo! (Gosh, I hope she doesn’t read this. ;-D)

But recipes in general are a favorite thing of mine. I like trying them and testing them out on my family.

There are so many resources out there for frugal recipes, and not so frugal.

A search at amazon.ca for ‘cookbooks’ came back with 15,373 results. That’s a lot of recipes! And don’t get me started on Google-ing. (I LOVE to Google!)

But not all of the recipes are good recipes, and not all of them are frugal.

That’s the point of these recipes. Good and frugal.

Frugal for the most part.

What I mean by that last part is: a recipe may start out a wee bit more than you’d normally spend but it makes four separate meals, so the time you saved in preparation is worth the extra moula.

The Recipes

Cheesy Slow Cooker Chicken : A recipe revamped. I found this recipe on another website and found it blandish, so I revamped it my way (just slightly) and voila - a super easy supper!

Oven Rice : A cooked-all-in-one-roast-pan recipe the doubles and freezes well, and the leftovers are easy to reinvent.

Pop-Over Pizza : An easy way to use leftover spaghetti sauce. Kids eat it up!

Shipwreck Dinner : A cooked-in-the-pan-casserole that uses your ‘Friend in the Freezer’ (browned ground beef). Throw whatever leftover veggies in too – the more the merrier!

More recipes to come...

The Resources

There are quiet a few resources out there for the frugally-minded chef.

Books
"Miserley Meals" by Jonni McCoy is quiet good. There are a lot of great tips, recipes, and information such as what can be frozen and for how long. Some of the recipes can be a bit on the bland-ish side, but it's easy to add in whatever seasonings you prefer. The origianl recipe for Pop-Over Pizza is from this book, I just reworked it a bit to suit our family. It is unavailable from amazon.ca, however you can find it second hand.
